SHORT STORY :

Eric Williams, brother of Simon Williams, was the black sheep of the family. He was an unruly and sadistic child, made jealous of his brother by the affection his mother Martha showed him.

One day, while playing with chemicals in the garage, he set the house on fire. Simon felt guilty for not having prevented it, and he then vowed to be responsible. Years passed and Eric became an athlete, but also a young thief and gambler. He moved to Las Vegas where he joined the ranks of the Maggia, while Simon took over the family business, Williams Innovations.

Due to competition from Stark Industries, Simon's company began to decline, and the businessman sought help from his brother and the mafia. Finally, Simon was arrested to serve a prison sentence. He was released by Baron Zemo who transformed him into Wonder Man, ensuring his loyalty in exchange for an antidote that could save him from slow poisoning. Supposed to be a double agent with the Avengers, Simon sacrificed himself to help the Avengers and fell into a coma with the appearance of clinical death. Learning of his brother's death, Eric wanted revenge. He contacted the Tinkerer through his contacts and had a scythe made, later improved by Ultron. Taking the name Grim Reaper, he embarked on professional crime, targeting the Avengers. He was finally defeated by Black Panther.

During his second appearance, he was at the head of the Lethal Legion, consisting of

Living Laser, Goliath II (Erik Josten), Man-Ape, and Swordsman. The team was defeated by Vision, who surprised the villain by telling him that he possessed his brother's brain patterns. The Reaper then allied with the Space Phantom and HYDRA. He planned to transfer Vision's mind (possessing the same mental patterns as his deceased brother) into Captain America's body to resurrect Simon, but the Avengers thwarted his plan. Later, he confronted Vision and Wonder Man, who had been brought back to life by Black Talon, to determine which of the two was his real brother; he was beaten by Wonder Man.

He allied with the mutant Nekra and the robot Ultron, but died by falling during a fight against the heroes. Nekra revived him as a zombie, but Eric thought he was alive. The undead faced Magneto but was killed again.

Years later, he was resurrected by Immortus, as a member of the Legion of the Dead, launched against the West Coast Avengers. He had his neck broken by Wonder Man. \n \nNekra, his mistress, found his tomb and thanks to voodoo magic, she brought him back to life for a third time, on the condition that he absorb a life every 24 hours. He made Nekra - to her great surprise - his first victim; He went to California and eliminated a small satanic cult to increase his strength, and faced Wonder Man and the Mandrill, whom he killed. He allied with Ultron-13 who fused his scythe to his arm, but the duo was defeated by the Avengers, and incarcerated.
